Biography

Liming Chen is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, University of Lyon, France. He received his BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Nantes in 1984, his MSc and PhD in computer science from the University Pierre and Marie Curie Paris 6 in 1986 and 1989 respectively. He was an associate professor at the Université de Technologie de Compiègne before he joined Ecole Centrale de Lyon as Professor in 1998. 

40 PhD thesis were successfully defended under Prof. Chen’s supervision or co-supervision, including 37 thesis since his appointment to ECL. His research has led to 286 publications, including 2 books, 11 book chapters, 53 international journals, 2 national journals, 156 international conferences, 41 international workshops, 15 national conferences and 7 archived publications, filed 7 patents and 2 softwares, 16 national or European collaborative research projects for a total amount of 3.36 millions €, 14 industrial contracts for a total amount more than 1 M€. Prof. Chen initiated the lecture of deep learning at Ecole Centrale de Lyon in 2015 and is responsible or co-responsible of three AI related courses for engineer graduate students, namely Introduction to Deep learning, Structured Deep learning and computer vision.

Dr. Emmanuel DELLANDREA

Emmanuel Dellandréa is Associate Professor at Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France, since 2004. He was awarded a Master and Engineering degrees in Computer Science from the Université de Tours, France, in 2000 followed by a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2003. He obtained the Habilitation to Drive Research (HDR) in 2020 from Ecole Centrale de Lyon. His research activities led in the LIRIS laboratory (CNRS UMR 5205) are related to image and video understanding, computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning with applications to affective computing and robotics.

Dr. Nicolas Cazin

After serving as software/real-time/signal processing engineer at Thales for 7 years and worked on surface radars, Nicolas Cazin changed his carrier direction and obtained a PhD in computational neuroscience, supervised by Peter-Ford Dominey. It consisted in investigating by siumation on a GPUs cluster a memory consolidation mechanism observed on a rat trying to solve the traveling salesperson problem by relying on electrophysiological measurements acquired during behavioral experiments and by using the reservoir computing paradigm for modeling the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus.

M. QUENTIN GALLOUEDEC

Quentin Gallouedec is currently a PhD candidate in Machine Learning. His research is focused on Deep Reinforcement Learning applied to robotic manipulation.

He obtained in 2020 a Master’s degree in computer science engineering (Ecole Centrale de Lyon) and a Master’s degree in embedded systems electronics (Ecole Centrale de Lyon).

M. Rui Yang

Rui Yang is currently a PhD candidate in Machine Learning. His research is focused on Deep Robot Lifelong Learning for vision-based robotic grasping of objects.

He obtained in 2020 a Master’s degree in computer science engineering (Ecole Centrale de Lyon) and a Master’s degree in Data Science (UCB Lyon 1).

M. AMAURY DEPIERRE

Amaury Depierre completed his Engineering Degree (~ MSc Degree) at École Centrale de Lyon in 2016. He is since then a Ph.D. student at LIRIS in partnership with Siléane, a company specialized in adaptive robotics. His research are focused on vision for automated grasping. His research interests are deep learning, computer vision and robotics.

Maxime Petit received the M.Sc. degree in computer sciences (cognitive sciences major) from the University of Paris-Sud, Orsay, France, in 2010, and an M.Sc. degree in bioengineering (bioinformatics major) from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA), Lyon, France, the same year. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2014, from the Neurosciences and Cognition doctoral school, working at the Stem-Cell and Brain Research Institute for the National Institute of Science And Medical Research (INSERM) in Bron, France, within the Robotic Cognition Laboratory team for the FP7 EU project EFAA.

He was a research associate in the Personal Robotics Lab between 2014 and 2016, as a part of the FP7 WYSIWYD project, and is currently a research associate at Ecole Centrale de Lyon since 2017 (FUI Pikaflex, EU CHIST-ERA Learn-Real).  His research interests are trans-disciplinary and are covering multimodal HRI; continuous learning and long-term memory; learning by demonstration, imitation and instructions; machine learning and computer vision for robots.

Dissertation on Generic Instance Segmentation for Object-Oriented Bin-Picking. An industrial thesis with Siléane, a French leading company in robotics. It aims to make robots recognize objects from RGBD images.
